Tian'anmen Square measures 880 meters from north to south, 500 meters from east to west and can accommodate up to one million people.
Tian'anmen (the Gate of Heavenly Peace), is located in the dead centre of Beijing city. The gate is to the north.
To the west is Zhongshan Park, and the People's Museum. Note the Beijing 2008 Olympic banner.
To the south is the Monument to the People's Heroes.

To the East is the Working People's Cultural Palace.

Their War Memorial tower.

There is a stream to the south named Waijinshuihe (Outer Golden River). It has 7 marble bridges. The middle on is for the emporer.

The Forbidden City was unfortunately under some heavy repair so some things looked pretty lame as you can see.

Notice the path travelled by the nobility.
The whole site is being restored and renovated. These are stacks of new roofing tiles to fix this part of the Forbidden City.
